Casa Villa, Casa Harapan and Madu Kelulut

Yeahhh!! Year 4 has ended!! :D Yesterday, 4th July was the last day of our academic posting for Year 4 2014. We will enter Final Year this coming September. 2 more months to go!

I wanted to post about this one long trip with Dr.Samsul back when we were in Family Medicine posting. It was an educational field trip, I must say. So here are some pictures I had, and some I took from our WhatsApp group. Enjoy!

I can't remember the exact date of our trip, but I remember it was on Thursday. In that morning, I drove my friends to KK Bukit Goh to get signatures from MOs for our logbook. After that, we arrived in UIA just before 9am to depart to Casa Villa and Casa Harapan. 9 students altogether, with Dr.Samsul driving his spacious car.

Ready to go?

There it is, located just next to KIPSAS Mosque.

Casa Villa is a project under DIC (Drug Intervention Centre) Pahang. It's a centre for male drug users to stay and get treatment. Basically, they use method of 'cold turkey' as an approach to make the participants stop using drugs. It means giving up the addiction abruptly (Google cold turkey if you wanna know more). We were brought to see inside the house. They have this special locked room where the new participants stay inside and combat their withdrawal side effects. The participants were encouraged to take a shower if they feel like using again.

Most of the staff here are former drug users, so they have the experience and knowledge in dealing with drug users. They don't believe in Methadone Replacement Therapy (program by our Ministry of Health where Methadone is given to drug users as substitution for opioids) as they think that with Methadone, they have to keep taking it for the rest of their life. And the withdrawal effects are far worse than taking heroine itself.

"O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination, of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?" (Quran 5:90-91)

Some contribution from Dr.
After Casa Villa, our next stop would be Casa Harapan. But before that, Dr. took us shopping in Tunas Manja! We bought some food supplies for the kids.

Milk, Fruit cocktails, Ketchup, Fruits etc.
Off we go! Casa Harapan is another DIC project. It's a centre for women and kids who are affected with HIV/AIDS to stay and get treatment. Most of the kids are orphans. UIA students often come here to visit and play with the kids.

"Serve God, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For God loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious" (Quran, 4:36)

"Treat not the orphan with harshness" (Qur'an 93:9)

"Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a Fire into their own bodies: They will soon be enduring a Blazing Fire!" (Quran 4:10)

It was a good trip, I must say.

It's nice when you have a lecturer who likes to take you out and bring you to places. Last time with Dr.Samsul, we got to see his project in ICRACU UIA. ICRACU stands for Integrated Centre for Research Animal Care and Use, a place to conduct research on animals. Read here for details.

Dr's project is on bees. Madu Kelulut from the bees, said to have various health benefits.

Dr has like five to six boxes like this one

We get to take the honey from that by using a syringe

That's all for now! Happy holidayyyy y'all!! :D :D :D
