From 7.45am till 3pm everyday except Friday (ends at 12pm).

After I finished my two years of Foundation studies in IIUM PJ, I am now in IIUM Kuantan, taking a degree in Medicine. Currently, I.m in second year. I got another four years to graduate. That is, if I pass two Professional Exams in between. Then, I.ll be a houseman for two years in a government hospital. After that, I.ll become a Medical Office for three years. Only then, perhaps I.ll take a second online degree in Multimedia for another three years. Or I.ll just enroll in an online course during my M.O years.

If you ask me where my marriage fits into this plan, I.ll say - Nowhere.

Yes. I am quite ambitious. I believe most female doctors are. Who would want to waste their 7 years of studying, just to settle down and be a full-time housewife? That is ridiculously unacceptable.

They better take a degree in ‘Housekeeping Skills & Management’ instead of Medicine. And that would include how-to's of Cooking, Gardening, Sewing and even Taking Care of Husband and Kids.

Or better yet, don.t go to university at all. Just sit patiently at home, wait for your parents to bring home a husband. Then, go get married and have kids.

There you go. A fully-dedicated woman of the house.

Mistake me not. I have nothing against housewives. I respect them so much, I dare not speak ill of them. Oh, what would the world be without housewives?

In fact, my Mom is an amazing 24/7 housewife. My parents have been married for, I think almost 24 years now. Still, they live happily. My Mom got married when she was 21 years old while my Dad was 26 at that time. How I wish my own marriage will last that long.

Yes, of course I can get married and still continue to study or work as a doctor. But I don.t think it.s going to be in these 4 years period of my study. By the time I got my MBBS, I.ll be 25 years old. Only then, I.ll be ready for an official ceremony - with my own choice, definitely.

If I haven.t met him yet, well..

I.ll just pick a guy and ask him, "Would you do me a favor and marry me, please?"

As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures.

There you go. My Life As Planned.

But if you ask me next year, I might have a different answer. Who knows.

My heart almost stopped when my computer system suddenly crashed. I was in the middle of editing my PowerPoint slides when that happened.

I couldn.t access any of my files, all the programs in Hard Disk Drive disappeared! I was like, darn, do I have to format my laptop? Can the files be rescued? I don.t even have any back-ups, shoot!

After I poked around a little, I managed to open Mozilla. So I Googled about this problem.

Thank God I.ve found the solution! Here.s the link to a very useful blog, it has saved my LIFE laptop! Thank you!

After I read about the descriptions, only then I knew where the problems lied.

It.s the Rogue System Restore Software! (System Restore" is a rogue Windows registry cleaner and HDD repair program that claims to fix common cause of Windows crashes and error messages. The name of this malicious software is truly misleading. As you probably know, there's a valuable and genuine Windows utility called System Restore. It solves major Windows problems and restores Windows system files while the fake one reports non-existent system errors and HDD failures. System Restore (fake) is from the same family as Data Recovery malware)

I think I.ve got a fake System Software installed. Thankfully, the blog has helped me to remove the rogue System Restore.

Now my heart is back to normal. *wink!

Show Off

Few Saturdays back, we had Inter-block Sports Day in the Stadium and Sports Complex, IIUM. Yeah, UIA Kuantan dah ada Olympic-size Stadium, gempak tak? Tu baru Stadium, tak masuk lagi Kolam Renang (Olimpic-size juge) and Sports Complex yang mantap! Macam2 game boleh main kat situ. Squash, Badminton, Netball, Futsal, Tennis - you name it, semua ada! Nama pun Sports Complex kan.. ;)

It was held in the morning, 9am till 3pm. We had to bail out in the afternoon due to the Leadership Program that was made compulsory for all IIUM second-year students.

Speaking of the Sports Day, I also participated in the event. In 4x100m Relay.

Now see what happens to the present, older and oh-so-matured Me - dull, inactive and boring. What a waste.

In ECG Lab Practical, we were required to clip/stick the 12-lead electrodes at certain points on the chest. Lead I, II, III, aVR, aVF, aVL, V1, V2, V3, V4, V5 and V6. The result was then printed.

When I showed my ECG result to Dr.Nilar, I asked for her comments.

She said, I got deep S wave and a tall R wave - might be an indication of ventricular hypertrophy!

I was like, See, I told ya! I know that something is wrong with me somwhere! But of course, I didn.t say it out loud to Yun and Shuk, they.ll nag me all day if I did! Hehehh

Dr.Nilar then asked me to calculate the Lyon index, to see if it.s normal or not. She said it.ll be normal.

Who knows?

Well, I better go get my calculator.

Blood Bank Visit

Our first Hospital Visit in Year 2 was to Blood Bank, HTAA. Here.s what happened:


Reached Lobi Makmur, HTAA before 2pm. Went straight to Blood Bank after all of us arrived. The place was easily located - just walk along the path opposite HTAA Kiosk, you.ll see a 'Tabung Darah' signboard.


Gathered at Meeting Room for a briefing by Dr.Rosmawati. She asked questions about the role of Blood Bank and what did we expect to see during the visit.

Off we went - to the Registration Counter first. Dr.Rosma gave us the Blood Transfer form and she explained about the significance of each questions asked in the form.

Then, we went to Blood Donation room, where we saw people donated their blood.

This is the machine used by people who would like to donate their blood by Apheresis method - the blood donors can choose what type of cells they.d like to donate (packed cells, white cells, plasma or platelet) and the RBCs are returned back to the body through the same tube. It is similar like Dialysis machine, and it took longer time (60 to 90mins) than the normal blood donation (15-30mins).

Screening Lab where the staffs screen the blood for Syphilis, HIV, Hep B & Hep C by using a machine. If the donors' blood test result is positive for the screened disease, they will then be informed.

This is the Component Room where the blood components are processed. Plasma bags can be stored in the freezer up to 1 year, whole blood in 5-6 degree Celcius for about 42 days and platelets only for 5 days.

After the first centrifuge, we can observe two portions of the blood (red, heavy haematocrit/packed cells below the bag and tea-coloured platelet-rich plasma on top) obviously

To sum it up, the visit gave us an overview of what happened behind the scenes of a Blood Bank in the hospitals.

My goals after the visit:

1) To be a regular blood donor

2) To donate blood at HTAA once every 4 months

3) To donate blood via Apheresis (at least one time) :)

A Successful Story

Yay! We ended up second in Talentime! What a day!

It.s all thanks to our 4th year seniors aka facilitators: Abang Syazwan (front row, second from right) and Kak Jannah (last row, first from left) who had been very supportive! We were truly grateful for their commitment - they came to all of our rehearsal sessions and they even contributed ideas!

To sum it up, it.s not winning that I care about, but the path that all of us took towards the win is all that matters. From the moment we started planning, practicing and acting - it was a journey.

A Very Wonderful Journey.

ps. I.m totally impressed with the video shown during the program, entitled 'Aku, Dia & Akuarium' or something about friendship. That was one hell of a good drama.

Well, do you know if they need an additional role for their next artwork? I.d love to go for an audition :)

1. IIMP Volunteer Work was done successfully! Tak payah pening2 kepala lagi. Move on to the presentation next week!

2. Tomorrow morning aka this morning: Ukhuwwah Network. Our group.ll perform third. Hopefully, they.ll do their best. Hopefully, we.ll all do our best! A 10-minutes performance is not that difficult, huhh?

Yeah, right. Talking about chaotic days and sleepless nights.

3. IIUM Jamuan makan2 is not for students - for staffs only. How frustrating. I smell discrimination.

4. Zenith.s Special Dinner: 4 till 6pm. Menu: Nasi tomato, Mee soup, Satay, Yun.s Trifle and Caramel Pudding. Siapa yang nak tapau, sila bawak Tupperware masing2 ye. Datang jangan tak datang, nasi tomato sedap tau.. :)

Just finished cleaning up the kitchen few minutes ago with my Mom and my Sis (Kak Nor).

Our neighbours (of 6 families) came over for makan-makan after Isya' just now. My Mom made Nasi Ayam and ordered Laksa Putih from Makcik Mah. Kak Nor made Apple Juice. I made the desserts.

We started preparing for tonight.s open house at about 2pm and all preparations were completed just about the right time for them to have their dinner.

Random Thoughts

1. Just came back from a mental break (NOT mental breakdown okay!). Need some space in my brain to sort a few things out. Too many things. Too many problems. So, I guess me - procrastinating from writing my heart out on this digital wall was definitely a huge relief back then. Now I.m back, people!

2. Still - many unexpected things happen. A lot to think - and to settle. First thing first, my laptop screen is dysfunctional at the whole lower 1/3 and I have to use only a small portion of it right now. It was due to an incident happened last Hari Raya - and I still didn.t know who the culprit was. GRRR!! I love my laptop, you know.

3. Maybe I won.t be able to come to Zenith.s Eid Celebration aka Raya Gathering this Sunday morning. Have to attend my 'braces' appointment in Ampang. Before that, I gotta finish up the Video Editing first. A girl.s gotta do what a girl.s gotta do, right?

4. Trying to adjust to a new phase of life - Year 2 of MBBS. Pretty tough, I dare say. Lots of assignments. PBL triggers. Case Discussions. Case methods. Study guides. Compilation. Lectures. Tutorials. Presentations. Practicals. Mini Test. End Block Exam. Professional Exam.

5. Block 1, 2, 3 and 4 - each block consists of 10 weeks (not exactly!) - just 8 weeks of lectures!!!! 8 WEEKS!! Minus the one week Revision Week and EBE a week after, 8 weeks' time is very short! OMG OMG I.ve got to go studying if i have some more spare time later i.ll write here or you just have to text me or just do whatever just please i have to study now and i don.t think i can keep on procrastinating like i did before OMG OMG how can i be prepared for this minitest oh oh en block exam rigghhht pro exam is coming up next year it.ll be on 16th july 2012 it.s less than a year how can i make myself ready in lesss than a yearr OMG i.ll ssee yyoou laatter ookkayy buuh bbyeee zzzzzzzz

Dessert for the Day

Me and my Mom dah plan untuk buat kuih raya/dessert/juadah sepanjang Ramadhan ni. Bukanlah hari-hari tapi bila ada masa lah. Except for the day yang kitorang plan untuk berbuka kat luar, haa time tu kite enjoyy!! :)

First day of Ramadhan, mak aku ajar buat kuih ni. Nama dia Nekbat, cane nak eja pun aq x sure. Well, sebenarnya bukanlah kena 'buat' pun kuih ni. Kita g je beli kat kedai kuih yang da siap buat, dia macam bahulu. RM2.50 sepeket, ade la dalam 6/7 biji. Pastu kite sediakan je kuah manisan dia.

Manis tapi sedap. Lain kali kitorang nak try buat kaler hijau/pink pulak. Heheh.

Aritu kitorang buat kuih Butir Nangka. Yang biasa orang Kelantan makan tu, guna tepung pulut, letak pandan, kaler hijau - and kuah dia santan. Lupa pulak aq nak amik gambar.

Pastu kitorang try buat pizza. Mini pizza lah. Letak crabstick, sosej, burger daging potong kecik2 atas dye. Tak berapa jadi sangat, tapi boleh lah tahan sedapnye. Hehehe. Gambar pun takdek la. Xpe2 lain kali aq buat, aq tunjuk ehh :)

Puding Karamel pun buat jugak. Kebetulan ayah aq ade meeting malam tu, so kitorang hidangkan puding tu dalam mangkuk kecik2, dihiasi dengan koktel buah. 8 orang yang makan, 8 mangkuk sume abis licin. Tandanya ape tu yee? Hehehh

Lepas ni kitorang nak try buat biskut raya pulak. Maybe Biskut Nestum or Almond London. Senang lah raya nanti, tak payah beli kuih banyak2. Buat sendiri sudahh..

ps. Nak belajar buat dessert banyak2. Senang nak tambat hati ~~suami~~ mak mertua nanti ;)

Babysitting

You know about my parent.s honeymoon. Apparently, I was appointed as a babysitter for my two sisters - Izzah, 11 and Adlin, 6. I had to be, considering the fact that my elder sister is in Cyberjaya, my younger sisters Jehan is in IIUM PJ and Syakirah in SMA Bukit Goh - all are studying except me.

You know how difficult kids can be. So I had a schedule made...

..and pasted on Adlin.s closet. Activities planned for the whole week.

My plan worked. She behaved well during the week and didn.t ask for my Mom very often. She was really looking forward to what we were gonna do for the day - I saw her looking at the schedule frequently.

That.s the secret. Distraction.

For all sisters out there, you should try this method if you are left to babysit.

And to all brothers, I strongly think you.re not up to this method. Plus, do parents trust brothers to do babysitting work? I don.t think so :)

We just had our Wireless Streamyx installed at our home. Yeah I know. That is sooo last season.

Well, you know how conservative (in a good way) my parents are. This time, I handled all the registration process - I went to the Streamyx office in Mahkota Square, upgraded our Streamyx account, filled the form and walla - tis' done! Although it takes quite a few weeks for the Streamyx installers to install the Modem at our house, it.s worth the effort.

Next thing, I must think of a way to persuade my Dad to upgrade our Astro to Astro Beyond. Hmm..

The Waterfall

Out of 6 pots, 3 of them have grown leaves! They.re the roses. Boy, can.t wait for 'em to grow bigger!

Latest update: We had a waterfall installed in our backyard. There are fish, too.

The uncles who work on this project told us that this is the first waterfall of this kind built in Kuantan. How true that fact is, I don.t know.

At first I thought it was a huge waste. (RM 12,000++ is the installment cost!) But seeing the look of happiness and satisfaction on my Mom.s face when she looks at the waterfall... what the heck, it was worth it.

I tell ya, this is gonna be my Mom.s seventh baby ;)

Gardening Experiment

My younger sisters, Izzah and Adlin love to watch Astro TVIQ Sekolahku Channel 610. But they changed the audio to Bahasa Malaysia, of course.

Alin tak faham lah apa dia cakap, said Adlin when Kak Nor asked her to change back the audio to English.

It.s becoming my habit to join them watch too.

There.s this one experiment where the seeds are left in a water bottle, filled with water and covered with transparent plastic. It is then exposed to sunlight. Few days later, the seeds grow.

I.d like to try it, so here they are.

But I was using covered pots and plants' stem instead of seeds. I.m out of seeds already. I.ll buy some later.

Well, let.s wait for another few days and I.ll report the result to you, okay?

ps. Astro TVIQ rocks! There are lots of fun experiments to try. Hehe.

She left the plastic on the kitchen table, uncovered.

The cats took our lunch!!

FYI, they are not our pets.

And secondly, we.ve wasted RM17 for the meals!

Now my sister has to go buy nasi ayam as replacements.

So Long, Mini Research! :)

It.s a relief to be free (at last!) from the tension of Mini Research workload.

For about 5 weeks, we have struggled very hard to compile the data for a 58-page scientific report. Abstract, Introduction, Methodology, Result, Discussion, Conclusion - and all things in between need to be edited, corrected and re-checked again and again. Meetings and Discussions were conducted from time to time.

As in the case of Group D, the period of time to analyse the data was shorter than the other three groups. This is because, during the fourth week - where all the groups were already in the process of interpreting the tables/graphs in Discussion section, we made a major change and re-analyse the data! It means that we were starting from the scratch again!

It was Dr. Jamal's idea. Initially we categorized the exam results (outcome) into Low, Intermediate and High Achievers. But Dr.Jamal said something like, 'Why don.t you maintain the numerical values of the result? No need to categorize. Because when you try to change numerical to categorical, then you lose the statistical power already'. Then we were like, 'Yeah, he.s right. Let.s gamble everything and believe in our capabilities - we can finish the report before its due date! Come on, let.s do this!'

All of us were called for a meeting that evening, and during the night as well. We analysed the data in subgroups and ended up at almost 12.20am - it was the KOM.s MakCik Guard with her repeated announcements that made us realise, we had to disperse.

After compiling the 'Result & Discussion' from each subgroups, Kak Jihah (our asst.leader) divided the 'Editing Task' to several group members. Methodology, Lit Review, References, Discussion, Introduction - basically every single thing had its own Editor. Even our slide presentation wasn.t ready at that time yet. We had to wait for IMRAD to be finalised before we put them in the slides.

It was hectic. On Tuesday of the 5th week, me & Maryam got our slides prepared with the help of Linda & The Gang. But there were many references which were actually not included in our report. It was not their fault, because the IMRAD + Lit Review were always changing as the editor edited them. They couldn.t get their hands on the Finalized version yet. The slides were edited again and again.

On Thursday, we had our report sent to every lecturers at the very last minute, after Dr.Razman reviewed them. The poster was ready as well. It was a relief for the 'Editing Team' but not for me & Maryam. We had our mock presentation in front of the group members later that evening.

After we got the feedback & suggestions from the members regarding the slides, we took note and did the corrections. Later that night, after I edited the slides - changed the mind map, resized the graphs and standardized everything - at almost 11.30pm, once again we had our mock presentation in Maryam.s room, with only few members present. Kak Jihah, Shahidah, Aminah, Bayan and Aminah - their last minute comments were really helpful.

Maryam & I stayed up till late night to prepare for the presentation the next day.

On Friday, we heaved up sigh of relief when our turn was the last to present. We used it to our advantage - we edited the slides during other group.s presentations. Afifah made few corrections for Maryam and I included the Questionairre, Table 4, Acknowledgments and Poster into the slides at that very particular time.

I prayed very hard so that neither one of us will mess up the presentation as our time to prepare was very short - even I doubted myself. But I believed everything will go as planned.

After our 30++ minutes presentation was over, it was a huge relief for us. Finally, it was over!

And I think, it.s worth all our efforts when Dr. Jamal, Dr. SK Farid, Dr. Niza and Dr. Razman praised our presentation.

I.d like to think that Dr. Jamal doesn.t giving out praises easily to everyone :)

ps. If given the chance, I.d like to re-do the presentation again. I.d like to make it perfect.

Team Work

It annoys me when a person comes late in a meeting. Or not coming at all. It shows lack of commitment.

It disturbs me when a person doesn.t have a clue to what he needs to do. It shows lack of responsibility.

It irritates me when a person doesn.t pass up the groupwork on time. It shows lack of respect.

It pains me to see a person doesn.t care enough to join the group discussion. It reflects selfishness.

It hurts me to look at how disorganised a group can be without proper guidance and direction.

It saddens me when group members seem to forget the 'Work' in a 'Teamwork'. When serious matters are taken lightly. When commitment, responsibility, and respect don.t matter.

And Yes. I admit.

Sometimes I can be a very difficult person to work with.

After all, what to do - we can.t choose our group members.

If we can, I.ll be glad to form a new group where all the members give their full commitment, show some responsibility and respect each other.

If only.
